Smart Communications launched a new artificial intelligence-powered noise cancellation service called PureVoice on November 6, designed to filter out background distractions during mobile calls for its premium Smart Infinity subscribers.

The service functions on both new and older mobile devices without requiring app installations, allowing users to toggle the feature by pressing 8# during an active call.

The technology aims to eliminate ambient sounds such as traffic, crowds, and music to ensure clear communication for users in busy environments.

“Voice remains the quintessential service of any telecommunications company,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, the first vice president and officer-in-charge of Smart.

Manaloto added that the company is modernizing voice communications to bring the service into the 5G era.

The rollout serves as an exclusive benefit for Smart Infinity members, providing them with early access to improved call quality as the company seeks to differentiate its premium offerings.

“By introducing PureVoice to Smart Infinity members first, we are giving them early access to a new level of call clarity,” said Tina D. Montinola, the vice president and head of Smart Infinity.

The company stated that the project builds upon previous infrastructure investments, including the 2020 rollout of Voice over LTE and Video over LTE capabilities.

“Advancements in our Smart network and AI capabilities have laid the foundation for a more intelligent and enhanced calling experience,” said Debbie M. Hu, the first vice president and wireless network business partner of Smart.

While Smart has announced plans to eventually expand the service to a wider subscriber base, the company has not provided a specific timeline for a broader release.

It remains unclear if Smart will implement additional charges for the service once it becomes available to non-Infinity customers.
