Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro Max may start at $1,299, but for Nigerians, the more important question is not how much the device costs in dollars but how many months of income it represents. At the September 11, 2026 exchange rate of about N1,326.79 to the dollar, Apple’s $1,299 starting price translates to approximately N1.72 million which is the equivalent of more than two years of gross income for a worker earning Nigeria’s N70,000 national minimum wage, and more than three months of income for someone earning N500,000 a month. The calculation highlights the widening gap between the price of premium imported technology and the purchasing power of Nigerian consumers. Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, with the device starting at $1,299. The new model comes with the A20 Pro chip, a 6.9-inch display, an upgraded camera system and longer battery life.
