Crypto market outperforms as call for slower AI development weighs on tech stocks

The cryptocurrency market is showing strength due to potential regulatory progress, while technology stocks are declining following calls from AI industry leaders to slow down development for safety reasons. Investors are re-evaluating the growth timelines for AI infrastructure and chip demand.
Why it matters
The shift reflects growing investor caution regarding the sustainability of the AI boom and the increasing influence of regulatory developments on digital asset markets.
Crypto is outperforming broader markets as optimism builds around the U.S. Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, while concerns over a potential slowdown in AI development weigh on technology stocks.
The odds of the Clarity Act, which is intended to define a federal regulatory framework for digital assets, being signed into law in 2026 have climbed to around 30% on Polymarket, up from a low of 12% at the start of September. The bill faces a procedural Senate vote on Tuesday.
The prospect of progress on crypto regulation appears to be supporting sentiment. Bitcoin BTC $ 77,831.68 is up more than 1% over the past 24 hours at $77,800, while ether ETH $ 2,513.29 has gained 2% to $2,500.
