Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calls for slowing AI development to reduce risks

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called on AI companies to deliberately moderate the pace at which they advance model capabilities, outlining a three-step framework to slow development and create more time to manage risks, Reuters reported Saturday. "We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain," Amodei said in an essay.The comments came after Jacob Coxon, a former employee of both Anthropic and OpenAI, resigned from the company on Wednesday, accusing the firms of acting irresponsibly and “gambling with our lives.” Coxon warned that the technology could potentially “kill us all by the end of the decade.”I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly.
