Amazon is phasing out Fire Tablets because they weren’t ‘giving customers what they were asking for’

Amazon is phasing out its Fire Tablet brand in favor of a new 'Alexa Tablet' lineup that runs standard Android with full Google Play Store access. The decision follows consumer feedback indicating that the previous Fire OS limitations and lack of native Google apps were unsatisfactory.
Why it matters
This marks a significant pivot in Amazon's hardware strategy, acknowledging that proprietary software ecosystems can sometimes alienate users who demand interoperability with major services.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Amazon’s head of consumer electronics, Panos Panay, confirmed the company would phase out the Fire brand in favor of Alexa Tablets.
