Security company 1Password launched a new platform today that allows personal artificial intelligence agents to sign into user accounts without viewing or handling underlying credentials.

The tool uses a unique digital key to verify an agent's identity when it reaches a login form, prompting a notification on the user's personal device for approval.

Once approved, the application fills in the required login information directly, preventing users from pasting passwords into chat windows where copies might remain unmanaged.

The launch arrives as consumers increasingly entrust automated assistants with tasks like paying bills and planning vacations, creating new security challenges for major financial institutions.

“Agents are starting to do real work on our behalf. The old model where you hand over a credential and hope for the best doesn’t work,” said Aashish Tripathi, chief product officer at 1Password.

Initial launch partners include OpenAI with ChatGPT Work and Dots, Meta Platforms with Muse, Anthropic with Claude Duet, and Grok Bot from SpaceXSI, according to SiliconANGLE.

Startup Town is also integrated into the system after raising 108 million dollars this week, while Anthropic Chief Product Officer Ami Vora said the company wants to reach everyday users.

“1Password will soon fill in those sign-ins using passwords people have already set up,” said Ami Vora, chief product officer at Anthropic, regarding upcoming features.

Nine additional companies are currently building their own integrations with the password manager, including Perplexity AI and Browserbase, though a release timeline remains unannounced.

Meanwhile, major banks have begun detecting automated activity inside user accounts, with a Chase spokesperson telling Axios that customers should avoid sharing login credentials.

Bankers interviewed by Axios described the rising volume of unverified automated actions inside financial systems as horrifying.

It remains unclear when each of the nine upcoming partner integrations will fully reach general users.
