The Italian Formula 1 sensation won the Spanish Grand Prix on Sept. 13 in the motorsport series' return to Madrid.
Antonelli, 20, started the day second on the grid next to pole sitter Lando Norris. Norris' race was botched when the competition was put under virtual safety car after Lance Stroll crashed in the 14th lap. The McLaren driver and defending champion missed the pit window, which compromised his position for the rest of the day.
Antonelli took the lead on the 49th lap when Charles Leclerc went in for a pit stop. He had a bit of a battle with Max Verstappen but was able to maintain first place. Verstappen finished second with Norris in third. The Mercedes driver jumped into the crowd of his team waiting below the podium and then hoisted the highly-anticipated churro-shaped trophy.
