The blond starlet, who won the supporting actress category at the 1955 Academy Awards , died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, her representative Jeff Sanderson confirmed to USA TODAY in a statement Oct. 6.

She took home the Oscar for the 1954 film "On the Waterfront," where she plays Catholic schoolgirl Edie who seeks justice after her longshoremen brother is murdered in Hoboken, New Jersey.

"I may have a baby right here," she said in her speech while nine months pregnant with her first child, son Darrell Hayden. She thanked all the longshoreman in her speech.
