Ethiopia's PM Abiy Ahmed Appoints 62 State Ministers in "New Administration"

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed 62 state ministers to complete his administration's executive structure. The appointments include figures from opposition parties and former regional officials, signaling a move toward a broader political coalition.
Why it matters
These appointments are critical for the stability of the Ethiopian government as it navigates post-conflict reconstruction and political integration.
(Nairobi, Kenya) — Following the endorsement of federal cabinet ministers earlier this week , Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially appointed 62 state ministers across key federal portfolios to complete the executive structure of the newly formed administration.
The official list, released by the Office of the Prime Minister, includes notable cross-party and former regional officials. Among the appointments, Eyob Mesfin—current leader of the opposition Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice (EZEMA) party and an elected parliamentary representative in the seventh general election—was named State Minister of Urban and Infrastructure. His appointment marks the second major leadership placement for EZEMA within the executive branch, following the retention of former party leader Professor Berhanu Nega as Minister of Education.
