Benjamin Netanyahu demands investigation into 'NAZA' documentary participants
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a criminal investigation into participants of a documentary titled 'NAZA,' alleging it defames the IDF and harms Israel's security interests. This follows the release of a counter-documentary by Israeli creators intended to discredit the original film's claims of military misconduct.
Why it matters
The situation underscores the intense battle over the global narrative regarding the conflict in Gaza and the limits of free speech versus national security in Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded on Sunday that the justice system prosecute the people who participated in the NAZA documentary for severe information security offenses, criminal defamation, and damage to Israel's diplomatic and security interests.According to a letter released by the Prime Minister's Office, the prime minister asked the IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) Director David Zini, and Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara to launch a comprehensive investigation into the participants of the documentary. "The film spins a false, misleading, and biased narrative that defames the State of Israel and the IDF globally and severely damages Israel's standing,” Netanyahu said at the beginning of the letter.ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו פנה הערב בדרישה לרמטכ״ל, ראש השב״כ והיועמ״שית לפתוח בחקירה מקיפה כנגד המשתתפים בסרט ״נז״א״ והעמדתם לדין בגין עבירות ביטחון מידע חמורות, הוצאת דיבה פלילית ופגיעה באינטרסים מדיניים וביטחוניים של ישראל.
