The African Union Commission has clarified its earlier warning over escalating tensions between Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt after Cairo raised objections to the statement, stressing that it did not intend to assign responsibility for the crisis to any neighboring country.
In an official clarification issued on Sunday, October 4, the AU Commission said it had taken note of observations expressed by Egypt concerning its October 1 statement on regional tensions.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of African states, as well as the principle of non-interference in their internal affairs.
It also stressed its commitment to political solutions and said military solutions should not prevail.
