Share A A A The Australian sharemarket had a strong session on the back of a positive lead from Wall Street after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates on hold, though predictions for another rate hike by the Reserve Bank weighed down local retailers.
The S&P/ASX 200 finished up 44.5 points, or 0.5 per cent, at 8891.80. Wall Street gained after the Fed opted to delay any potential changes to borrowing costs until after next week’s US midterm elections as it was awaiting further data on the path of inflation.
