2027: Tinubu campaigns in Rivers, commends Wike, Fubara reconciliation, slams Atiku

President Bola Tinubu campaigned in Rivers State, praising local political reconciliation efforts and defending his administration's economic reforms. He specifically addressed the clearing of pension backlogs as evidence of his commitment to national prosperity.
Why it matters
Presidential campaign rhetoric regarding economic recovery and political alliances is critical for understanding the shifting power dynamics in Nigerian governance ahead of the 2027 election.
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday acknowledged the pivotal role of Rivers State voters in the 2023 presidential election that brought him into office, and sought their renewed backing in the 16 January 2027 election to consolidate his administration’s gains.
Speaking at a campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the president commended the large turnout and praised the reconciliation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The Rainbow Coalition, led by Wike, organised the rally, which brought together political leaders and supporters from across Rivers State and beyond.
President Tinubu said Governor Fubara demonstrated maturity, understanding and respect for the intervention of political elders in resolving the disagreement with his predecessor.
