The Winnipeg Jets overcame a four-goal deficit in the final minutes of the third period to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in overtime at the Bell Centre on Tuesday.

Winnipeg scored four times in two minutes and six seconds to tie the game with 33 seconds remaining, before Dylan Samberg scored the winner at 3:30 of the overtime period.

The comeback marks the latest four-goal rally in NHL history, snapping a nine-game losing streak for the Jets, who entered the contest with a 5-8-3 record.

“We needed something to happen, some kind of crazy thing to happen, and four goals in 2:06, that doesn’t happen very often, if ever,” said Winnipeg coach Scott Arniel.

Tyrel Bauer began the scoring surge with 2:39 left in regulation, followed by a goal from Morgan Barron and two consecutive tallies from Kyle Connor to force the extra period.

Montreal had built a 4-0 lead through goals from Owen Beck, Josh Anderson and two from Cole Caufield, while goaltender Jacob Fowler stopped 42 of 47 shots in the loss.

“You look at that game, we were winning but we weren’t beating them,” said Montreal coach Martin St. Louis.

The Canadiens, who hold a 9-3-3 record, had been on a five-game winning streak and extended their point streak to eight games despite the collapse.

The Jets are scheduled to host the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, while the Canadiens return to the ice to face the Utah Mammoth on the same night.
