Twelve people sustained injuries, including six children, when gunfire erupted Saturday night near a football stadium at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, after a homecoming game.

Eleven of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, while a 12th person was hurt while fleeing the chaotic scene. Six of the victims were juveniles, including an 11-year-old child.

By Sunday morning, five of the hospitalized victims had been discharged, while six remained under medical care. One of those patients was listed in critical condition, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

The violence unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets following a football match between the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Florida A&M.

Officers have made no arrests in connection with the case, and investigators are working to determine whether the shooting was directly connected to the homecoming events.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell told reporters that a preliminary investigation indicated a physical fight between two or three people preceded the gunfire.

"We had officers who were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport because they couldn't get through the mass of people," said Lawrence Revell, the Tallahassee police chief.

Crowds filled the surrounding streets after the game, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate the area as officers responded to the danger without knowing the number of shooters.

"No family should have to experience this kind of violence, this kind of fear, this kind of heartbreak," Revell said.

The Violent Crimes Unit of the police department is leading the ongoing investigation, reviewing digital evidence and canvassing the area for information.

University officials stated that the campus remained safe while urging people to stay away from the stadium area and assist investigators with tips.

Detectives have established a tip line and continue searching for those responsible for the violence as the community waits for answers.
