Three armed men forced their way into a mansion in Toronto early Thursday morning, shooting three family members and attacking all four occupants with a hammer.
The home invasion occurred around 3:40 a.m. at a residence on Hyde Park Circle in the affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood.
The suspects entered through a rear entrance and went to the second floor, confronting seventy-five-year-old David Morton, his wife Doriana Morton, and their two adult daughters.
Police said the intruders demanded valuables before gunfire erupted when family members attempted to fight off the attackers.
David Morton is the chief executive officer of the MAC Group, and his daughters are ages 28 and 26.

Three family members sustained gunshot wounds, and police said two victims suffered life-altering injuries.
All four family members were also attacked with a hammer during the violent confrontation, requiring emergency medical treatment.
Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith spoke to reporters about the ongoing investigation into the targeted affluent neighbourhood.
"There was a demand made for valuables from within the home," said Kristy Smith, a Toronto Police Service inspector.
David Morton issued a statement on Friday expressing gratitude to first responders and describing the ordeal.
"What should have been the safety and security of our own home became a terrifying and life-threatening experience," said David Morton, CEO of the MAC Group.

The three male suspects fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV before officers arrived at the property.
Police described the suspects as being in their early twenties and wearing dark clothing along with face masks.
According to Toronto police figures cited by CBS News, the city has recorded 119 home invasions so far in 2026.
That figure represents a 32.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to police statistics.
Investigators continue to search for the three suspects and are urging anyone with video footage or information to contact police.
