Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang urged European leaders on Monday in Berlin to move faster on artificial intelligence and rely less on regulations, warning that excessive caution could cause the continent to fall behind in the global technology race.

Speaking to a crowd of 4,000 attendees at the Tempodrom during the opening of Nvidia’s GTC conference, Huang unveiled the DSX Pod, a modular plug-in data center designed to accelerate artificial intelligence infrastructure deployment in Europe.

The remarks arrive as European nations attempt to balance technological innovation with strict oversight, highlighted by the European Union artificial intelligence act and ongoing economic stagnation in major markets like Germany.

"To be part of this AI economy, you don't want to just be consuming the AI. You want to be producing the AI," said Jensen Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia.

Huang argued that Europe possesses strong manufacturing heritage and engineering expertise that can be leveraged for physical artificial intelligence and autonomous robotics, such as the upcoming Agile One reference robot.

During the 90-minute keynote address, two Greenpeace protesters interrupted the presentation by standing up and unfurling a banner that read "Clean up your dirty business."

Demonstrators also shouted questions across the auditorium regarding the reported use of Nvidia chips in Russian military drones deployed against Ukraine.

Huang told security personnel to handle the protesters gently and made a brief remark from the stage before continuing with the presentation.

"All important issues, but let me get through my keynote," said Jensen Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia.

Nvidia previously confirmed that consumer-grade Jetson Orin modules photographed in recovered military drones are manufactured by the company, though the firm stated the hardware is not designed for military purposes.

The conference continues with developer sessions and executive panels while industry observers watch to see how European policymakers respond to the push for faster infrastructure deployment.
