A man armed with an electric chainsaw attacked a tenth-grade student inside a classroom at an Andhra Pradesh high school, critically injuring her and another classmate.

The assault took place at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu mandal of Anantapur district while mathematics lessons were underway, leaving thirty-one students present in the room.

The main suspect was identified by police as Hemanth, a twenty-one-year-old relative of the primary victim, Mudaga Gopika, who sustained severe injuries to her face, head, and back.

Another student, Sake Lakshmi, suffered leg injuries while attempting to intervene during the sudden attack.

Police forces and local authorities moved quickly to detain the suspect at a railway station within hours of the violent episode.

Investigators stated that the suspect carried out the assault after the female student rejected his romantic advances and warned him she would report his behavior.

Classroom teacher Rajarajeswari recounted the sudden violence.

"I was clearing students’ doubts when the perpetrator barged into the classroom, went to Gopika and attacked her," said Rajarajeswari, the class teacher.

Medical personnel initially transferred both injured girls to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur for urgent care.

Health officials later moved Gopika via an advanced ambulance to a private medical facility in Bengaluru accompanied by a specialized surgical team.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu contacted district officials and spoke directly with the victim's mother to offer full governmental support.

Education Minister Nara Lokesh deployed twenty mental health counselors to visit the homes of affected students and offer emotional support.

The grandfather of the victim expressed grief over the lack of warning regarding the suspect's intentions.

"We as a family never knew that this psycho person had a one-sided love for our daughter," said Mudaga Katamaiya, the grandfather of the victim.

Local law enforcement registered formal charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act alongside charges of attempted murder.

State authorities continue to review school security measures as medical teams monitor the recovery of the hospitalized teenager.
