A federal judge in Florida dismissed President Donald Trump’s 10 billion dollar defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal on Saturday after ruling that the legal complaint failed to demonstrate actual malice.
U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles threw out the revised case with prejudice, ensuring that the president cannot refile the same lawsuit.
The legal battle stems from a report published last year detailing a 2003 birthday book compiled for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which included a letter and a drawing purportedly signed by Trump.
Trump denied writing or signing the document, maintaining that the publication defamed him and caused severe financial and reputational harm.

Gayles found that the lawsuit lacked merit and described the legal arguments as grasping at straws to manufacture flaws in the newspaper reporting.
“As President Trump has not plausibly alleged that each Defendant made defamatory statements with actual malice, the Amended Complaint must be dismissed,” Gayles wrote in the ruling.
The judge added that requiring journalists to halt publication simply because a public figure denies an accusation would violate the First Amendment.
Attorneys for Dow Jones, the parent company of the newspaper, argued that the initial article properly informed readers of the denial and that sending a letter to an acquaintance is not inherently defamatory.
The publication of the birthday book occurred while the administration faced intense political scrutiny regarding the public release of documents related to Epstein.
Legal experts noted that the actual malice standard requires public figures to prove that a publisher knew a statement was false or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
Trump previously filed a similar suit seeking 20 billion dollars in damages, which Gayles dismissed earlier this year before permitting an amended filing.
President Trump could choose to challenge the latest ruling through an appeal in a higher court.
