Iran warned the United States and Israel on Saturday against launching new military strikes, as regional tensions persisted alongside diplomatic efforts involving Qatari mediators.
The conflict began on Feb. 28 with United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, which led to restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and heightened global energy prices.
The diplomatic push follows a letter sent to Iran by United States Vice President JD Vance at the direction of President Donald Trump in an effort to revive negotiations.
“I read the letter. I haven’t yet responded. Their tone has completely changed,” said Mohsen Rezaei, the head of Iran’s supreme national security council.

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei directed military commanders to prepare for immediate retaliation during a meeting in Tehran, according to an official statement.
“Any level or type of threat must be met with an immediate, impactful and geographically unrestricted response,” said Mojtaba Khamenei, according to a written statement posted on his website.
The meeting marked the first reported public appearance by the supreme leader since he assumed his role after the killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the opening strikes.
During the meeting, the supreme leader also instructed commanders to update target lists to include tangible and intangible assets belonging to the adversary.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that a new proposal had been reached with mediators that could fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz in two days, according to Al Jazeera.
Araghchi noted that while Iran is not currently planning direct meetings with American officials, recent diplomatic overtures represent a positive step.

Meanwhile, negotiators from Iran arrived in Doha on Saturday for further discussions with Qatari mediators, according to an official briefed on the talks.
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington remains open to a diplomatic solution, though President Trump has not yet made a decision on fresh strikes.
In Israel, political leaders awaited final outcomes following a general election that left Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s camp short of a parliamentary majority.
Netanyahu has described the situation as a historic opportunity to topple the Iranian government, while Iranian officials maintain that their defense conditions remain unchanged.
