Bournemouth defeated AC Milan 3-0 in a Europa League match at Vitality Stadium on Thursday, continuing a successful start to their first-ever European campaign.

Justin Kluivert scored the opening goal from an eighth-minute penalty following a handball by Koni De Winter. Marcus Tavernier added a second penalty in the 32nd minute after AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan received a straight red card.

Maignan was sent off in the 28th minute after pushing Tyler Adams in the face during a corner kick. Amine Adli capped the scoring with a free-kick in the second half.

The result marked a historic milestone for Bournemouth, a club that nearly faced liquidation in 2008 before rising through the English lower divisions.

"It's mega. In terms of the story of the club it's ridiculous," said Ryan Christie, the Bournemouth midfielder, according to the BBC.

Bournemouth manager Marco Rose praised his players for their discipline and execution against the seven-time European champions.

"A big night for us. I'm happy for the club, our fans especially and really proud of my lads," said Marco Rose, the Bournemouth boss.

AC Milan struggled to maintain momentum after falling behind and losing their captain and starting goalkeeper to the red card.

"There was no game after 20 minutes. We need to avoid our mistakes. We need to have 11 players on the pitch all the time," said Ruben Amorim, the AC Milan manager.

Amorim introduced substitutes at half-time to implement a conservative defensive block, but the tactical adjustment failed to produce an attacking response.

Bournemouth now holds a perfect record of three wins from three matches in the Europa League table.

Bournemouth will return to domestic competition with an upcoming fixture against Manchester United.
