Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain appeared in court on Wednesday to face two charges of voluntarily causing hurt following an altercation with police personnel at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The Malaysian Checkpoints and Borders Agency director-general entered a plea of not guilty at the Sepang magistrates' court to two counts under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution involves an incident on September 28 at the terminal involving Lance Corporal Mohammad Faiz Muhamad Saman and Lance Corporal Muhammad Ekmal Sofwan Driman.
The case gained widespread attention after digital video footage circulated online showing a senior official confronting travel control officers and pulling one by the ear.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both for each count under the penal statute.
Defence lawyer Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad spoke to reporters outside the courthouse regarding his client's professional status.
“So far, in the absence of any directive, he will continue performing his duties as usual,” said Rosal, noting that no suspension orders have been issued by the government.
“He accepts what has happened and does not blame anyone,” Rosal said, describing the 54-year-old enforcement chief as calm throughout the proceedings.

The magistrate ordered the defendant to pay bail of RM1,500 for each count along with one surety, resulting in a total amount of RM3,000.
Before the court appearance, the defendant expressed readiness to address the accusations through the country's judicial institutions.
“Tomorrow, I am ready to face the country's legal process,” said Mohd Shuhaily prior to the hearing, adding appreciation for public support.
The court scheduled the next hearing for November 25 while the defence awaits complete prosecution documentation.
