Matthew Aaron VanDyke appeared before a judge in New Delhi on Friday after returning from the United States following a previous court order.
The American citizen and six Ukrainian nationals were arrested by federal authorities in March over allegations of providing military instruction to ethnic armed groups across the border.
The prosecution initially detained the group under stringent anti-terrorism laws before dropping those specific provisions when filing charging documents in September.
Instead, investigators proceeded solely under immigration rules that allow for financial compounding, which permitted the defendants to secure default bail.

During Friday's closed proceedings, Special Judge Prashant Sharma granted applications allowing the six Ukrainian citizens to stay outside the country until February 24.
The Ukrainian nationals joined the court session through video links because of health concerns, while the American defendant attended the hearing in person.
Law enforcement representatives told the court that inquiries into the matter remain active and further developments will be presented at a later date.
Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, the American defendant questioned the necessity of ongoing legal proceedings against him.
"There's no reason for it to continue. If not, I'll stay in India. Until this is over," said Mr. VanDyke.
He also mentioned financial pressures related to his defense costs.
"I don't have any comments on the case. It's all ongoing. Especially now that I'm my own lawyer. I don't want to talk about it. There is a money issue. That's the main issue," said Mr. VanDyke.
The investigative agency previously alleged that the foreign nationals traveled to the northeastern region without proper permits and crossed into Myanmar.
Authorities claimed the group provided instruction in drone operations and assembly to organizations fighting the Myanmar military junta.
Prosecutors have indicated that supplementary charges could be filed if additional evidence emerges during the continuing inquiry.
