Alexander Volkanovski defeated Movsar Evloev by a second-round technical knockout at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Saturday to retain his featherweight championship at UFC 333.
The 38-year-old Australian stopped the previously undefeated Russian contender at 4:54 of the second round, surpassing Jose Aldo with his ninth featherweight title victory.
The victory strengthens Volkanovski's claim as one of the greatest fighters in the division's history and marks his second successful defense during his current title reign.
"He's a great fighter, and he was undefeated for a reason," said Alexander Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion. "I just said I'm the right guy for that job."
Evloev started strongly and secured three takedowns in the final minutes of the opening round, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Volkanovski turned the momentum in the second round by landing a straight left hand and a powerful right that sent his opponent backward to the canvas.
Referee Marc Goddard stopped the bout after the champion unleashed a relentless combination of punches on a covered-up Evloev in the closing seconds.
"It feels good to get a finish," said Volkanovski, who improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 29-4.
Evloev suffered the first defeat of his professional career, dropping his record to 20-1 after previously building a long path to a title opportunity.
"He's like good wine - older, stronger, better. He's a true legend, I'm grateful for this opportunity to be here," said Movsar Evloev, the defeated contender.
In the co-main event, Petr Yan defeated Merab Dvalishvili by a unanimous decision after five rounds to successfully defend his bantamweight title.

All three judges scored the bantamweight championship bout 48-47 in favor of Yan, according to Yahoo Sports.
"I usually take a little bit of time to warm into a fight, but in this one, I knew he was eventually going to gas out," said Petr Yan, the bantamweight champion.
Volkanovski indicated he intends to continue fighting if he avoids major injuries, leaving open the possibility of future bouts.
UFC chief Dana White suggested the organization would remain open to matching the veteran champion with major opponents next.
