Actor Josh O'Connor Addresses Speculation About Casting as Next James Bond

Actor Josh O'Connor said he is honored by public speculation that he may be cast as the next James Bond, as rumors intensify regarding the search for a new lead.

The 36-year-old actor, known for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown, is reportedly among the candidates participating in final auditions for the iconic film franchise.

O'Connor is said to be in contention for the role alongside fellow actors Callum Turner and Jack Lowden, according to multiple reports.

The casting search follows the departure of Daniel Craig, who concluded his 15-year tenure as the secret agent after his fifth film, No Time To Die, in 2021.

O'Connor addressed the rumors while attending the opening of a new education and community center at the Everyman Theatre in his hometown of Cheltenham.

"To be considered in that same sort of bracket is extraordinary," said Josh O'Connor.

He added: "It's an incredibly bizarre pinch-me moment... even being uttered in that same sentence and being considered for something like that."

Despite the public interest, O'Connor did not confirm his participation in the audition process, stating, "But I am afraid there is nothing to say beyond that."

The upcoming project is currently in development with a script written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and direction by Denis Villeneuve.

Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are overseeing the project, which remains untitled as the studio works to find a successor to Craig.

Pascal previously noted that the production team is being methodical in its approach, as Craig is considered a difficult act to follow for the franchise.

While previous reports have linked actors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Norton, and Paul Mescal to the role, no official casting announcement has been made.

Producers have indicated that a formal announcement regarding the new Bond is expected by the end of the year.
