Zelenskyy hails 'good' Trump talks on Patriot interceptor production and Russia talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss the domestic production of Patriot missile interceptors and potential diplomatic paths to end the war with Russia. The meeting was described as productive, occurring amidst an escalation in long-range strikes and the recent death of Senator Lindsey Graham.
Why it matters
The meeting signals a shift in U.S.-Ukraine relations and highlights ongoing efforts to secure critical defense infrastructure and diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed a "good meeting" with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday (July 28, 2026), saying they discussed licenses to produce Patriot air-defence interceptors and ways to revive negotiations with Russia.
Mr. Zelenskyy spent just over an hour with Mr. Trump, in talks that came as Kyiv and Moscow intensified long-range strikes and U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the war stalled.
"Thank you for everything we do together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and advance peace," Mr. Zelenskyy said afterwards in a statement on X.
"The President and I discussed licenses for Patriot interceptor production and several other ideas that could help," he added. "We also spoke about diplomacy — it's important that the diplomatic process be reinvigorated."
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the meeting as "positive and productive."
