YSRCP leader honours former CM with unique ‘Jala Abhishekam’
YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy performed a 'Jala Abhishekam' ritual on the statue of former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to mark his 17th death anniversary. The event highlighted the political legacy of irrigation projects in the region amidst ongoing tensions between YSRCP and the current government.
Why it matters
It reflects the ongoing political friction in Andhra Pradesh regarding the credit for major infrastructure projects and the symbolic use of political figures in regional discourse.
Former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy received a unique ‘Jala Abhishekam’ tribute on his 17th death anniversary here on Wednesday.
While his followers offered garlands or poured milk over his statue, YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) undivided Chittoor district president and TTD’s former Chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy paid tribute to the late leader by pouring buckets of water over his bust statue.
The incident gained public attention as it happened a day after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Veligonda project in Markapuram district, which was rubbished by YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as a form of ‘credit chori’.
