Regular tax compliance can provide individuals with access to tax clearance certificates and various tax reliefs, according to Derek Essien, Senior Accountant at Swami India Ghana Limited.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Townhall Talk on Friday (28 August), Essien said taxpayers should not view tax compliance solely as a way of raising revenue for government, but also consider the personal benefits associated with maintaining proper tax records.

He said one benefit of regular tax payments is obtaining a tax clearance certificate from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

“Personally, let’s take something called the tax clearance certificate. As a result of you making payments regularly, you get something from the GRA which is termed as the tax clearance certificate,” Essien said.

He said the importance of the certificate often becomes apparent when individuals need it for particular transactions or processes.
