The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre has issued a yellow alert for August 4 (Tuesday), warning of heavy rainfall in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.4 mm in parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts, among other places.

Many parts of the Malnad region received moderate to heavy rain on Monday, disrupting normal life. In view of the heavy rain, the local administration declared a holiday for schools in Sringeri and Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district, and in Sagar and Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district, on Monday.

Karimane in the Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga recorded 151.2 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday — the highest in the district. In Hassan district, Hongadahala in Sakaleshpur taluk registered the highest rainfall at 46.5 mm, while in Chikkamagaluru district, Begar in Sringeri taluk recorded the highest at 104.5 mm.
