Yellow alert for seven Keralam districts on October 6

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Kerala due to expected thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. The weather shift is attributed to an upper-air cyclonic circulation and a trough extending across the region.
Why it matters
Timely weather alerts are critical for public safety and disaster preparedness in regions prone to monsoon-related flooding and landslides.
With conditions becoming favourable for winds to gradually shift from westerlies to easterlies, thunderstorms are likely across most parts of the State over the next few days, accompanied by rumbling skies.
According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, an upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over North Interior Karnataka and the neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level. A trough extends from the Comorin area to the cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka, passing across Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka.
Under the influence of these weather systems, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-50 kmph are very likely over parts of Keralam until October 9. A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Tuesday, warning of isolated heavy rainfall.
