Yediyur waste plant generates power, manure for parks

A waste-processing unit in Yediyur is generating electricity from waste to meet the requirements of 106 parks, while leachate from the process is being converted into organic manure used to maintain another 256 parks, officials told GBA Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao and West Corporation Commissioner K.V. Rajendra, who inspected the bio-methanisation plant and the organic manure production unit on the Yediyur Lake bund on Saturday.
While the gas generated during the process is used to produce electricity, which is used for 106 parks, leachate generated during waste-processing is sent to the organic manure production unit on the Yediyur Lake bund.
