Year Master Plan to Expand Avocado Farmland to 192,000 Hectares

A comprehensive 15-year National Avocado Development Program initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture aims to scale Ethiopia’s avocado farmland from 104,000 to 192,000 hectares by 2040, targeting major commercial expansion across global fruit export markets.

Operating across ten regional states under the direction of Program Administrator Abdella Negash, the multi-year initiative builds on significant production gains recorded during the 2025/26 fiscal year, where active farmland reached 122,600 hectares and total output exceeded 1.72 million metric tons. Revenue metrics show commercial supplies to agro-industrial parks generated over 6.5 million US dollars in foreign exchange during the period, complemented by 2.4 million US dollars in direct fresh fruit export receipts.
