‘Yaaro neeyo’ marks Benny Dayal’s return to independent Tamil music
Singer Benny Dayal has returned to independent Tamil music with his new single 'Yaaro neeyo'. The track blends Tamil lyrics with the Amapiano sound, marking his entry into the EP format.
Why it matters
The shift of established playback singers toward independent music reflects a broader trend in the Indian music industry toward artist-driven creative control.
Singer, songwriter and composer Benny Dayal makes a strong return to Tamil independent music with his new single, ‘Yaaro neeyo’, released worldwide on August 18. The track revolves around love, longing, and memories, and is backed by Prito Intiacandy’s production, with lyrics by Vignesh Ramakrishnan.
Moving beyond playback singing, Benny says the inspiration behind the track was his desire to create something in Tamil. “I wanted to make something that was honest and intimate, something that people could relate to and make their own, irrespective of where they were in their lives,” he says.
“Also, this entire Amapiano sound is really beautiful. It has a refreshing Afro-inspired feel. Bringing Tamil lyrics and Amapiano together felt wonderful. And with ‘Yaaro neeyo’, I am also entering the EP space,” he adds.
