World Maritime Day marks beginning of a new maritime outlook for Keralam: CM

The ultimate goal of ‘Mission Samudra,’ a strategic initiative introduced by the Keralam government to transform the State into a major global maritime and economic hub, is not merely to increase the number of ships or containers, but to create a seamless economic flow -- from ports to people, from people to the world, and from the world back to Keralam’s prosperity, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.

In a message issued on the World Maritime Day on September 23, Mr. Satheesan said the project, launched with an initial allocation of ₹400 crore in the 2026-27 State Budget, was not merely a port development initiative but a long-term vision to achieve comprehensive development by harnessing the potential of the sea. “For a State with a vast coastline, coastal Keralam and inland Keralam are not separate entities, but parts of a single economic Keralam,” he said.
