World Bank to fund civic infrastructure projects in Chennai for creating circular economy

The World Bank will fund civic infrastructure projects of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to facilitate transition to a circular economy, develop world class facilities for health infrastructure, improve flood resilience and create electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
On Thursday, GCC Commissioner G.S. Sameeran met with a high-level delegation from the World Bank Group to discuss the implementation of key urban, environmental and infrastructure projects in the city with World Bank financial assistance.
The World Bank delegation included Ommid Saberi (Principal Industry Specialist), Nguyen Nhan (Global Operations Lead), and Autif Mohammed Sayyed (Green Building Expert).
Talking to The Hindu , Mr. Sameeran said: “We discussed with the World Bank team integrated flood management in Chennai and flood resilience of the Corporation’s assets, public private partnership opportunities like EV charging stations across the city, world class infrastructure for GCC health centres and hospitals and schools, building rooftop solar and cooling.”
