Harrelson said the story began about nine years ago when the two actors were in Greece. He recalled that McConaughey's mother, after drinking, told him she knew his father. The actor recalled, "I mentioned my father, and she goes, 'I knew your father.' Now, that's only four words, right? Think about this. That ellipsis. I knew it was more than three dots. It's like five, dang it."
