Women barred from Tooro king-designate’s night procession

Women will not be allowed to take part in the traditional procession that will usher in Tooro King-designate Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I from Rwengoma Palace to Karuziika Palace on Monday night, the kingdom has clarified.

The clarification was made on Sunday by Dr Richard Rwabuhinga, head of protocol for the coronation, who said the trek is exclusively reserved for men in line with Tooro traditions.

Speaking at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City, Dr Rwabuhinga urged women to stay away from the 10pm procession and instead attend the public coronation on Tuesday, September 29.

“I must emphasise and clarify that that trek is exclusively for the male gender, for the men and men alone. No woman is expected to participate in that trek,” Dr Rwabuhinga said.

“Our traditions do not allow women to be part of that journey moving to the palace on the 28th,” he said.
