Woman, Sanitary Inspector arrested over fake death certificate for widow pension

A woman and a sanitary inspector were arrested in India for creating a fake death certificate to fraudulently claim a widow pension. The police have remanded both individuals to judicial custody following the discovery of the bribe-based scheme.

A native of Kanuru village in Krishna district, Yeramsetti Rama Devi was separated from her husband Murali Krishna and had been living alone due to some family disputes. The accused reportedly approached Sanitary Inspector D. Antony and requested him to issue a fake death certificate for her husband in order to claim widow pension.
The Sanitary Inspector reportedly accepted a bribe of ₹15,000 and issued the death certificate.
