A 70-year-old woman was injured after she was attacked by a lone elephant that strayed into Kovilur village near Anthiyur here on Tuesday night (September 1, 2026).
The elephant reportedly emerged from the Ennamangalam forest beat of the Anthiyur forest range and entered the village, causing panic among residents. The elephant approached the house of Rasammal. Unaware of its presence, she came out of her house after hearing a noise. On seeing the elephant near her house, she tried to flee, but the animal attacked her. Rasammal sustained fractures to her left leg and right arm. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the spot. The elephant later returned to the forest.
