Woman held with counterfeit currency notes in Chennai

Alamelu, 46, was arrested after she allegedly attempted to use a fake ₹500 note at an Aavin milk booth in Aminjikarai.
The police said Siva, a resident of Arumbakkam, was running an Aavin milk booth at P.P. Garden in Aminjikarai. On Friday evening, Alamelu came to his shop to buy milk and handed over a ₹500 note.
Suspecting that the note was counterfeit, Siva questioned her. When she allegedly tried to leave the place, he alerted the police. Subsequently, the police went to the spot and took the woman into custody. During a search of her house, they found fake ₹500 notes of ₹42,000.
The notes were seized and Alamelu was arrested. She was subsequently produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
