Woman, grandson electrocuted in Nagapattinam

A 70-year-old woman and her 13-year-old grandson were electrocuted near Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district on Saturday.
The names of the victims were given as C. Indrani and R. Velmurugan, residents of Keezhatheru in Ettukkudi.
According to police sources, Indrani, whose hands were wet, went to open the iron gate at the entrance of her house on Saturday evening. She suffered an electric shock as a live-wire had touched the gate.
Velmurugan who attempted to pull her away was also electrocuted. Indrani died on the spot. Neighbours rushed Velmurugan to the Thirukkuvalai Government Hospital. However, he died on the way to the hospital.
