The Thalaghattapura police have registered a case of murder against a 40-year-old woman for allegedly drowning her four-month-old twin daughters before attempting suicide at her residence in Vajarahalli in south Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Umadevi, wife of Ramalingappa, was allegedly found attempting to hang herself in a room at the house. Her twin daughters were found dead in the same room.
According to the complaint filed by Ramalingappa, 50, the family had been living in BCCHS Layout, Vajarahalli, for around 10 years. The couple had undergone IVF treatment, following which Umadevi gave birth to twin girls at Cloudnine Hospital on May 5, 2026.
The complaint said that about one-and-a-half months after the delivery, Umadevi began showing disinterest in caring for the children and repeatedly said that they should be sent to an ashram.
