Woman arrested for murdering her relative’s son

The Uppinangady police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old woman, Nurunnisa, on the charge of murdering her sister-in-law’s two-year-old son and attempting to murder her three-year-old daughter.
In his complaint to the Uppinangady police, Nurunnisa’s father-in-law Aboobacker Mairakatte said Nurunnisa was three months pregnant. She frequently complained of headaches and had regular fights with her husband Sinan. On Saturday, she took her three-year-old daughter Aliya Mariyamma and her sister-in-law’s two-year-old son Mohammed Ribah and threw them into an open well on the house premises in Perne. Ribah’s mother Siphana raised an alarm for help, following which villagers lifted the two children from the well. The children were taken to the Puttur Government Hospital, where Ribah was declared dead. Mariyamma is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
