Will Nifty & Sensex continue to diverge? What new stock market timings mean
New SEBI guidelines have introduced a 'Closing Auction Session' for Indian stock markets, causing a divergence in closing times for F&O stocks versus others. This change alters how final prices are calculated for major indices like the Nifty50 and Sensex.
Why it matters
Regulatory changes in market timing directly impact trading strategies and price discovery for institutional and retail investors in India.
At the start of the new month, confusion has ensued for stock market investors as a new mechanism for closing and revised timings has left traders scrambling to adapt. This has altered the final closing price calculation methodology for several stocks, which in turn has impacted the final movement in Nifty50 and BSE Sensex. Why have stock market timings been revised? What is the new final closing price mechanism for some stocks and what does it mean for Sensex and Nifty?
