Wildlife Week: ITREK plants native saplings at Ponmudi
The collective ITREK planted 30 native tree saplings at Ponmudi to celebrate National Wildlife Week. The initiative, supported by the Forest department, focused on ecological restoration and included a plastic clean-up drive.
Why it matters
Restoring native flora in the Western Ghats is critical for maintaining biodiversity and supporting endangered species like the lion-tailed macaque.
ITREK, a collective involved in promoting responsible trekking, environmental conservation and welfare of the forest-dependent communities, planted tree saplings at Ponmudi as part of the National Wildlife Week celebrations on Saturday. Thirty native tree saplings were planted near the existing shola forest close to the cafeteria at Ponmudi as part of the initiative undertaken with the support of the Forest department and Ponmudi Ecotourism.
