Wildlife emergency ambulance launched in Chennai

Chennai has launched a wildlife emergency ambulance service to provide immediate medical care to injured animals in the city and surrounding regions. The initiative was inaugurated by the Forest Minister during Wildlife Week 2026 celebrations.

A wildlife emergency ambulance was launched in Chennai on Thursday to provide immediate medical assistance to injured and distressed wild animals in Chennai and neighbouring areas.
Forest Minister R.V. Ranjith Kumar flagged off the vehicle at the Guindy Children’s Nature Park during the valedictory function of Wildlife Week 2026.
The Minister also inaugurated a wildlife photography exhibition organised through the Tamil Nadu Wildlife Experiences Corporation (TNWEC) and released a standard operating procedure (SOP) document on monitoring sea turtles, their safe handling and release in appropriate coastal areas.
State-level final rounds of the wildlife awareness quiz were also held for school students as part of the celebrations. Prizes and certificates were presented to winners of the painting and quiz competitions and the photography contest conducted for volunteers.
