Why it matters
Human-wildlife conflict is a growing concern in rural areas, necessitating effective management strategies to protect both livelihoods and wildlife.
A wild elephant entered a farm near Thalavadi on Tuesday night (July 28, 2026) and seriously injured a bull after goring it with its tusks.
The lone elephant strayed into a farm owned by Rathinasamy at Tamilpuram, under the Jeerahalli Forest Range in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, reportedly in search of food and water. It damaged standing crops, prompting farmers to attempt to drive it away. During the operation, the elephant turned aggressive and attacked a bull that had been tethered in a cattle shed on the farm, injuring it severely.
After nearly four hours, the farmers managed to drive the elephant back into the adjoining forest.
