Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has asked former Governor Rotimi Amaechi to explain what happened to the $308 million made from selling Rivers State power plants during his time in office. Wike spoke on Sunday at a town hall meeting with leaders, elders and stakeholders of the Ogbakor Etche, in Etche Local Government of Rivers State, where he launched a fresh attack on his predecessor’s record in office. The minister criticized Amaechi’s 16 years in public office, eight years as governor (2007–2015) and eight years as Minister of Transportation saying it brought little real development to the state. Wike pointed to a judicial panel of inquiry that previously investigated the sale of the power stations and indicted Amaechi.
