The story so far: Mahayuti-led Mumbai civic body on Tuesday (August 19, 2026) approved changing the reservation status of Neville D’Souza football ground from playground to convention complex.
The general house meeting of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) discussed the resolution passed by the improvement committee on June 24. It recommended changing the reservation of Neville D’Souza football ground and amending the same in the Development Plan 2034. It also recommended that the Municipal Commissioner be authorised to approach the Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra Government for final approval.
The resolution sparked outrage in the House as opposition, including Congress , Shiv Sena (UBT) , NCP-SP and others, opposed the change of reservation status of the ground into a convention and exhibition centre.
