NEW DELHI: Asked whether defections by MPs could lead to political parties splitting, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said the SP had a built-in advantage because five members of his family are among its MPs.He suggested that even if some MPs left, the party would retain enough numbers to remain intact."Have you ever wondered why the entire party did not split? Because there are five MPs from the same family. We also have several Muslim MPs, and some staunch socialists, so our numbers would not decrease," he told news agency PTI."Sometimes dynastic politics has its benefits," Yadav said with a laugh.Yadav also sought to put to rest any speculation about the SP breaking its political alliances, saying the party had consistently stood by its commitments."The Samajwadi Party never breaks alliances.
